How to Throw a Hocus Pocus Halloween Party: A Spooktacular Guide to Eerie Fun

Updated: Sep 26, 2023

Welcome, fellow Halloween enthusiasts! Have you ever wanted to create a magical and enchanting Halloween party like no other? Well, hold onto your broomsticks because I've got the perfect guide for you. Get ready for an unforgettable night of spooktacular fun with a Hocus Pocus Halloween Party! My Hocus Pocus Halloween 2 Premier Party is unlike any other, with a unique theme that puts a twist on traditional costumes. I invited my guests to don their comfiest Halloween PJs and embrace a relaxed, cozy atmosphere. So grab your cauldron and let's get brewing!

Section 1: Setting the Spooky Scene

Creating a bewitching ambiance is crucial to setting the mood for your Hocus Pocus Halloween Party. Here are some tips to help you transform your space into a haunted haven:

  • Decorations: Embrace the spirit of Hocus Pocus by incorporating elements inspired by the movie. Think black cats, broomsticks, and potions galore! Hang cobwebs, place cauldrons strategically, and sprinkle mini witch hats around the room for an extra touch of magic. I added two balloon arches because what's a party without balloons? For the living room, I put down fabric that I received from Hobby Lobby to prevent spills and food crumbs on my carpet.

  • Lighting: Set an eerie atmosphere with dim, flickering lights. Add some glow-in-the-dark elements to surprise and delight your guests. I installed a fog machine in the dining room which featured colorful LED lights.

  • Music: Create a spellbinding playlist filled with spooky tunes and catchy songs from the Hocus Pocus soundtrack. When "I Put a Spell on You" starts playing, your guests won't be able to resist dancing their broomsticks off! My playlist is located here.

Decor:

Hanging Candles, Witch Hats, Bats, Favor Boxes, and Doller Tree is great for inexpensive and creative DIY decor.

Section 2: Spellbinding Invitations

To entice your guests to join your Hocus Pocus Halloween Party, you need invitations that capture their attention and spark their excitement. I believe that digital invitations are the best way to go. I know my friends barely look at the invitations, so I am not going to spend an ample amount of time creating them. Here are a few creative invitation ideas:

  • Customized Digital Invitations: Make use of online invitation platforms to create personalized invitations with a touch of magic. Add Hocus Pocus-themed backgrounds, include spooky animations, and don't forget to mention the Halloween PJs dress code! The link for my invitation is here.

Section 3: Bewitching Attire

Halloween PJs and chill attire are the name of the game for our Hocus Pocus Halloween Party. Encourage your guests to embrace a cozy and laid-back dress code, while also offering suggestions for themed costumes inspired by the iconic characters from the movie.

I bought mine from Walmart online and it was cute and on the low.

Section 4: Enchanting Activities and Games

No Hocus Pocus Halloween Party is complete without a range of entertaining activities and games that bring the magic of the movie to life. Here are a few ideas to keep your guests spellbound:

  • Hocus Pocus Drinking Game: We created a blackboard cut-out, where guests had to take a sip whenever they said one of the words/phrases during the movie.

  • Sanderson Sisters Trivia Game: Test your guests' knowledge of the movie with a trivia contest. Prepare a list of questions related to the characters, quotes, and plot. The winner gets their very own spell book!

  • Broomstick Relay Race: Divide your guests into teams and have them race while riding broomsticks. Set up an obstacle course and see who can reach the finish line first. It can be a hilarious and memorable activity bound to create some spooky laughter.

  • Spellbinding Scavenger Hunt: Create a scavenger hunt with clues hidden around your party space. Each clue will lead your guests closer to a grand prize. Make sure to incorporate items and locations from the Hocus Pocus movie to keep the theme alive.

Section 5: Wickedly Delicious Refreshments

No party is complete without delicious treats and drinks that leave guests craving more. Here's a selection of recipes inspired by Hocus Pocus that are sure to leave your guests spellbound:

  • Hocus Pocus Punch: Brew a cauldron-sized batch of a spooky punch using this recipe guide. I added a little splash to this with a lot of vodka. Serve it in wickedly fun cauldron mugs or skeleton cups for an extra touch of charm.

  • Jello Shots: Jelloshots with the three Sanderson sister's colors are the way to go if you are trying to have a really good time with friends. Click here for the recipe I used.

  • Chocolate Covered Strawberry: Serve up some magically delicious desserts with your Dollar Tree Batman toothpicks. It's easy to decorate any food group festively and your guests won't be able to resist!

  • Witches Hat Cupcakes: Pay homage to the Sanderson Sisters with cupcakes! We added the sister's colors topping it off with mini Oreos and Kisses.

I'm here to help you out, so don't make the same mistakes as I did as a first-timer. Here are a few tips and tricks that might come in handy:

Plan: Start planning your party at least a month in advance to give yourself enough time to prepare. This includes sending out invitations, buying decorations, preparing food, and organizing activities.

Set a budget: Determine how much you're willing to spend on your party and stick to it. You don't want to overspend and regret it later. For instance, I spent wayyy too much money on food. Too many sweets that guests did not eat.

Delegate tasks: Don't be afraid to ask for help. Enlist the help of your friends and family to help you prepare for the party. Assign tasks such as preparing food, decorating, and cleaning up. My friend who owns a picnic company set up the balloons and my other friend prepared the majority of the food.

Keep it simple: You don't have to go overboard with decorations and activities. Keep it simple and focus on a few key elements that will make your party memorable.

Have a backup plan: Always have a backup plan in case something goes wrong. For example, if it's raining, make sure you have indoor activities planned.

Enjoy yourself: Don't forget to have fun! Hosting a party can be stressful, but it's also a great opportunity to make memories and bond with your guests.

I hope these tips help you and make your party planning process a little easier. Don't hesitate to ask me any questions you may have along the way. Good luck with your Hocus Pocus Halloween Party!
